On Monday, Aug. 19, at 12:25 p.m., a full moon in Aquarius at 27 degrees will be a seasonal blue moon and this year’s first supermoon. According to NASA, super blue moons are rare occurrences, and it sometimes takes as long as 20 years for another one to happen. The next super blue moon will be in January 2037.

Full moons represent emotional times of culmination and endings. Celebrations, ceremonies, project completion and relationship transitions are ways full moon energy can play out. Full moons expose what has been hidden beneath the surface. When a full moon is a supermoon, these effects are amplified.

This supermoon activates the Leo-Aquarius axis of ego, as both have a unique, strong presence of character. The polarity can be interpreted as big heart (Leo) versus big mind (Aquarius).

The moon represents emotions, so when it takes on the cerebral nature of the air sign Aquarius, associated with emotional detachment, the tendency to analyze emotions rather than feel them becomes pronounced.

But this also provides an inlet to gain incredible insight into what underlies our emotions. And yet, with this being a supermoon, emotions are likely to overpower logic, especially concerning things that truly matter.

As such, this supermoon serves as a catalyst to break out of logical confines in areas of life where we are letting our heads do too much of the talking.

This supermoon forms a square to Aquarius’ chart ruler, Uranus, suggesting that some realizations could strike us out of the blue and lead to life-altering epiphanies.

Retrograde Mercury in Leo also aligns with this moon and conjuncts the sun, which could bring about some trepidation about the future. The more we rely on past recollections and wisdom gained through experience, the more we may ease this restless thinking.

Mercury’s opposition to the full moon increases the likelihood of vacillating between overthinking and becoming emotionally overwhelmed.

So what does this mean for you? Find out below.

Recent weeks have had you focusing on the mundane tasks of daily life, but you are now being pushed to consider your soul purpose and how to broaden your perspective through new experiences. The more you allow your curiosity to take the lead, the more you will be able to seize opportunities that enlighten you and help you shed old patterns that no longer serve you. An abundance of energy to help rid yourself of psychological junk is on offer, which could have you feeling a bit more tired or restless early this week.

Cancer
June 21–July 22

It’s time to be unapologetically yourself, dear Cancer. With this full moon falling in your eighth house of intimacy, shared resources and self-empowerment, it could feel that you are cracking out of a shell and feeling liberated to be yourself without the confines of others’ opinions weighing on you. If you’ve been operating from a place of self-reliance, it may be time to lean on someone. As a sign known to keep their cards close to their chest, this moon pushes you to be a little more vulnerable and trust the unbreakable nature of genuine connections. Tension within a social circle could bring about a realization.

Who can you trust? Relationships come to the forefront now, dear Leo, as this full moon falls in your opposite sign, which indicates the evolution of a partnership, such as a friend becoming a lover. For some, this could be a time when you recognize that you have outgrown a relationship, and it’s time to move on. Marriages, engagements and breakups are possible. Recognize the lessons you have learned over the last six months regarding close bonds. How were you showing up, and what did you learn about yourself that can only be seen through the eyes of another? This also may play out in terms of your career and reputation.

Virgo
Aug. 23–Sept. 22

How are you caring for yourself, dear Virgo? With this full moon casting its light on your sixth house of work and health, it will be harder to ignore the emotional undercurrents attached to your daily routine. It is the accumulation of daily habits that has the greatest impact on psychological, spiritual, physical and emotional well-being. Under the light of this full moon, you could make a snap decision to call it quits with something that negatively impacts your quality of life. While this could indicate a brief spell of discomfort, you’ll be better off in the long run.

What do you need to say? This full moon is shining on your third house of communication, connection to neighborhood and perception, dear Sagittarius. Insights about how you connect to your community could prompt you to make a change or learn something new. This could be linked to your daily routine or work and health habits.

Capricorn
Dec. 22–Jan. 19

How do you feel about yourself, dear Capricorn? Imbalances between give and take may be at the core of what’s been eating at you. Though you have an exceptional ability to put your head down and work, it’s time to stop normalizing this. Take a moment to appreciate your hard work. Unexpected breakthroughs regarding children, romantic partners or creative blocks are on the horizon.
