The crash involved two semis, both traveling north on Interstate 15 in Iron County, Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Haley Scheer told St. George News.

The first semi was traveling ahead of the second in the right lane, with the second approaching from behind. Near mile marker 85 at approximately 3:33 a.m., the driver of the second semi rear-ended the truck in front, Sheer said.

The events leading up to this moment are unclear and under investigation.

The second bobtail semi, or without a trailer, veered off the right shoulder and rolled, causing the driver to sustain fatal injuries, Sheer said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other truck’s driver was reportedly uninjured.

The Iron County Sheriff’s Office, the Utah Department of Transportation, the Paragonah Fire Department and a Cedar City Police vehicle also responded to the incident.

This report is based on statements from court documents and law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
