St. George News came upon the scene immediately after the crash occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. The man, who had been on his way to work at a local supermarket, was lying on the ground, a shoe knocked off his foot. His Jetson electric folding bike was inoperable and missing its front wheel.

Other than losing a piece of its undercarriage, the Hyundai SUV was able to be driven away.

The man riding the e-bike reportedly only suffered scratches, but Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene and checked his vitals before he received a clean bill of health.

The teenage boy driving the SUV also wasn’t injured but faced a citation, police said.

“He’s only got a learner’s permit and he didn’t have anybody in the car, so that’s what he’s probably going to be cited for,” St. George Police officer Nate Olson told St. George News at the scene.

Police said the SUV was westbound on Sunset Boulevard when it collided with the e-bike as the rider was turning onto the street from 1300 West.

Witnesses at the scene helped divert traffic from the right lane of westbound Sunset Boulevard for about five minutes while the e-bike and debris were removed from the road and the e-bike rider was able to get up and walk over to the curb.
