The two teams meet in their second regular-season match at Thunder Field on Tuesday night, April 25 at 7:30 p.m.

The winner of the contest will be in the driver’s seat to claim the Region 10 crown with one game remaining before the 4A playoffs.

Starting with action from the pitch on Friday night, the following are last week’s Region 10 soccer games.

Crimson Cliffs 3, Dixie 2

The Mustangs hung on for dear life and managed to eke out the win in the second-half on Senior Night in Washington Fields.

Crimson capitalized on what Dixie coach Travis Wilkinson told St. George News were “defensive line blunders” and scored twice in the first half to put the Flyers behind early.

Ryan Smith scored first for the Mustangs, collecting a deflected ball and punching it home off an assist from Owen Klingonsmith.

Less than a minute later Camden Squires got loose behind Dixie’s back line and tallied, giving the Mustangs a 2-nil advantage at halftime.

But the gutsy Flyers pressured Crimson’s cage constantly in the second half, cutting the lead to one after Iker Meza’s free kick found the net.

Then Dixie equalized 2-2 when Hayes Thompson was fouled in the penalty area and Darinel Briones buried the resulting PK.

But Squires had the answer. Crimson’s outstanding senior striker scored his second of the game and eighth goal of the season and Crimson Cliffs held on the rest of the way.

Meza, Dixie’s lethal scorer whose free kicks have potential to score from anywhere on the pitch, delivered a marvelous strike late in the second half that looked like it would bend in beneath the top post, but Mustangs keeper Treyden Stringham leapt at the last second and punched the ball up over the goal for the save.

Smith and Hinckley Heaton both recorded assists in Crimson’s win.

Desert Hills 7, Hurricane 0

The Thunder avoided any letdowns on the road, pummeling the Tigers with five scores in the second half to rout Hurricane.

Daniel Simister and Gage Lewis each scored twice and assisted once to lead the Thunder explosion. Also scoring in the big Desert Hills win were Karson Clark, Zach Davis and Gage Jepson.

Dawson Amick dispensed two assists for the Thunder while Clark, Isaak Poppe and Dillon Bingham all posted solo helpers in the victory.

Two Thunder keepers, Tayven Mortensen and Devon Benson, combined to shutout the Tigers.

Tylan Murray put up a hat trick Friday afternoon as the Reds won at home.

Cedar’s first goal came when a breaking Jose Barraza, as he was being closely guarded by two defenders, connected on a straightaway kick that he lofted from the top of the box, over the outstretched arm of Pine View’s goalkeeper.

Murray then added his first goal before halftime as the Reds took a 2-1 lead at the break. Then, in the second half, Murray scored two more goals during the last 10 minutes of the game.

“I thought we controlled the possession very well,” said Cedar head coach Scott Kamachi. “We had quite a few chances that we needed to convert. We just couldn’t get more goals. But getting the win was the most important thing today. We just want to keep the momentum as we head into the last week of the regular season.”

Games April 18

Dixie 3, Snow Canyon 2

The Flyers gutted out a tough victory at home after Hayes Thompson converted a cross from Iker Meza and Dixie took a 3-1 lead, then  held on to survive against the Warriors.

Thompson scored first for Dixie, scoring off of a Darinel Briones assist. Dixie could have taken a 2-nil advantage into halftime but Andy Lagomarsino hit the post on a penalty kick. Snow Canyon equalized 1-1 early in the second half.

Dixie jumped back ahead 2-1 behind Meza’s goal, scored about five minutes after the Warriors tied things up. Kimball Carter assisted Meza’s marker.

Snow Canyon scored again late in the second to provide the final margin. Brandon Gough scored both of the Warriors tallies while Will Nadauld recorded an assist in the setback.

Crimson Cliffs 5, Pine View 1

The Mustangs scored early and often on the road, netting four goals in the first half to win comfortably against the Panthers.

Senior Owen Klingonsmith led the way for Crimson with his two goals while Camden Squires scored a goal and dispensed a helper for the winners.

Also scoring in the Crimson win were Ryan Smith and Mason Manwaring. McKay Delahunty had an assist for the victors.

Pine View’s solo score came off the boot of Kanyon Dickinson.

Cedar 4, Hurricane 1

The Reds handled the Tigers on the road, scoring twice in each half for the decisive win.

Four Reds had single goals in the victory: Mason Palmer, Tylan Murray, Dallin Hillstead and Jose Barraza.
