ST. GEORGE — There’s never a bad time for breakfast, and it’s always fun sharing good food with great friends like “Grady Clocks In” star Grady Sinclair. So for this week’s episode of “What’s on the Menu,” host and chow connoisseur Sheldon Demke visited the Bear Paw Cafe in downtown St. George.
The Bear Paw Cafe, located within the old St. George Co-op Mercantile Building at 75 N. Main Street, is a staple of the historic district. Serving “world-famous breakfast” along with lunchtime favorites made from scratch since 1995, their 11-page menu also features exquisite coffees, exotic smoothies and a delectable assortment of pastries.

Demke and Sinclair started their feast with the signature stuffed French toast. The Bear Paw Cafe does it their way by cutting a pocket in each thick slice of bread and loading it with the customer’s choice of homemade spiced apples or vanilla or chocolate brûlée cream. The toast is then dipped in batter, seasoned with cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and brown sugar, and sprinkled with powdered sugar.
“It’s so delicious,” Demke said. “Every bite of this thing is moister than the bite before. Every bite is just, like, heaven.”
The duo also tried the huevos rancheros. Another Bear Paw Cafe original, they’ve served this traditional Mexican dish since the very beginning. In fact, general manager Jackson Potter said it’s probably his favorite menu item.
“I would never dream of touching this recipe,” he added. “It’s a home run every time. If I could put out one thing to the world that is the cornerstone of my offering, I would honestly say it’s the huevos rancheros.”
