ST. GEORGE — The Trailblazers hope the third time will be a charm.
Utah Tech’s football team heads to Northern Arizona for its third consecutive contest versus a Big Sky Conference opponent to open the 2023 campaign.
Montana State and Montana both beat the Trailblazers (0-2) handily in the first two weeks of the season. In program history, Utah Tech has never defeated a Big Sky opponent (0-14), according to Utah Tech Athletics Media Relations.
The Trailblazers will look to get in the win column against a Lumberjacks team that is also 0-2.
Saturday’s 2 p.m. kickoff at Walkup Stadium in Flagstaff, Arizona, marks the first of three consecutive road trips for the Trailblazers as they’ll be at Missouri State (Sept. 23) and Colorado State (Sept. 30) before returning to St. George to face Stephen F. Austin (Oct. 7).
Northern Arizona lost 37-3 against Arizona and fell 37-22 to North Dakota in its first two contests.
Lumberjacks quarterback Kai Millner is ranked 24th in the country in total offense with 251.5 yards per game.
UT quarterback tandem Boone Abbott and Kobe Tracy will lead the offense against Northern Arizona. Freshman receiver Beau Sparks is emerging as a go-to player and senior receiver Rickie Johnson had a touchdown reception in each game against the Montana teams.
As always, Voice of the Trailblazers Rod Zundel will have the call on the live radio broadcast from Flagstaff on The Fan Sports Network.
