ENOCH — Two people were killed in a collision on state Route 130 north of Cedar City late Tuesday evening.

Officials said the incident occurred at approximately 9:41 p.m. at mile marker 13 on SR-130, about four miles north of the roundabout at Midvalley Road in Enoch.

Utah Highway Patrol Capt. Randy Riches said the crash involved a total of three vehicles: a white van traveling northbound and a southbound tractor pulling a trailer, which was being followed by a southbound pickup truck.

“The van drifted over, struck the trailer of the farm tractor and then hit the Ford pickup truck at a glancing head-on style collision,” Riches told Cedar City News at the scene. “That caused the van to rotate back to the right and overturn in the roadway.”

The two occupants of the van both died at the scene, Riches said.

Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup truck reportedly sustained minor injuries in the crash. He did not require medical transport, Riches added.

“We are investigating speed and possible impairment as potential contributing factors,” Riches said.

The incident prompted the complete closure of SR-130 between mile marker 13 and the Parowan Gap road to the north. The road closure was still in effect past midnight and was expected to last until around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

In addition to multiple UHP troopers, personnel from Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Parowan Police Department, Cedar City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.

An Air Life Utah medical helicopter was initially dispatched, although the call was canceled soon thereafter.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

This report is based on statements from law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Updated Sept. 6, 12:30 p.m. to include two photos of the vehicles involved.
