Coming two weeks after the total solar eclipse in Aries, a full moon lunar eclipse will occur at 11:23 a.m. MDT on Friday, May 5, at 14 degrees Scorpio. While the eclipse will not be visible for Southern Utahns, the astrological implications of a lunar eclipse are similar to a full moon but with increased potency.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth moves between the full moon and the sun, casting a red shadow on the moon’s surface.

Astrologically, eclipse energy and its effects can last up to six months and, as with all full moons, reveals what must be brought into balance. Many astrologers believe eclipses usher in fated change that unfolds at a rapid pace. It’s better to move with the energy than try to resist.

This lunar eclipse activates the Scorpio-Taurus axis, which is about what’s shared (Scorpio) and what’s yours (Taurus), putting a spotlight on relationships as well as monetary issues.

In Scorpio, a full moon increases the desire for meaningful exchanges. Superficial connections will be avoided and depth becomes the catalyst to purify and disrupt what’s become stagnant.

Amid Mercury retrograde, this lunar eclipse also will oppose Uranus, the planet of revolution,  which, simply put, means to expect the unexpected.

So what does this mean for your sign? Find out below.

Aries
March 21-April 19

This lunar eclipse is happening in a part of the sky that for you deals with matters of intimacy and shared resources, dear Aries, and shines a light on what’s yours versus theirs. This could trigger arguments over money or assets or could force you to address lingering debts. You could feel protective over resources that allow you a sense of independence.

You may desire to seek a new opportunity to make more money but run into some block along the way that requires you to change and step outside of your comfort zone. But the change is meant to increase your sense of worthiness. There is an opportunity to meet someone now, but it will take some effort on your part. For those in established bonds, this is a time to iron out any small disturbances before they fester into bigger problems.

Taurus
April 20-May 20

This lunar eclipse is happening in a part of the sky that for you deals with one-on-one partnerships and contracts, dear Taurus. This eclipse is one of the last two to take place in a series of eclipses on the Taurus-Scorpio axis during the last couple of years, which have been pushing you to change in a fundamental way.

If you have resisted needed change, this eclipse can usher in a situation that forces you to make a change, primarily in terms of relationships and how you relate with others. In opposition to Uranus in your first house of identity, a need to hold onto some aspect of yourself could be afflicting a current relationship or your ability to establish a solid foundation. This is not just about romantic relationships; it’s about business partnerships, friendships, family, etc. The eclipse is asking you to consider the purpose of people in your life and whether they are contributing to your greater well-being.

Gemini
May 21–June 20

This lunar eclipse is happening in a part of the sky that for you deals with health, diet and your daily routine, dear Gemini. In opposition to Uranus in the 12th house, your desire to escape is being hindered by a need to deal with matters related to your physical body and how you spend your time. If you feel like your progress is being hindered, this eclipse will reveal how you’ve been using avoidance as a means to escape, such as putting off going to the doctor, failing to quit a habit negatively impacting your health, or delaying bedtime to watch another episode of your favorite show.

It’s time to take an honest look at why you feel the need to escape and what it is you are trying to escape from. Part of this desire could be entangled in an overwhelmed feeling that you are too far away from your goal to start or an impatience to skip from A to Z. Commit to small changes now, rather than a lifestyle overhaul. Some could receive unexpected news regarding a health or work issue.

Cancer
June 21–July 22

This lunar eclipse is happening for you in a part of the sky that has to do with creativity, romance, children and the deepest pleasures of your heart, dear Cancer. In opposition to Uranus in the 11th house of future and friendships, this eclipse is unveiling how your associations with others are impacting your joy and freedom to express yourself. This indicates creative blocks, not feeling satisfied with creative productions or not feeling the support from others to branch off in the way you desire. This also could indicate stagnancy with a romantic partner.

It may be time to change your perception and attitude around love and take a new approach. For instance, rather than looking for a romantic partner that checks off all the boxes, focus on building friendships. Or, for those in an established bond, turn your focus onto reigniting the spark, rather than fixating on the lack of flames. Some could be surprised by the news of a pregnancy.

Leo
July 23–August 22

This full moon lunar eclipse is happening in a part of the sky that for you deals with home and inner security, dear Leo. In opposition to Uranus in your 10th house, this eclipse reveals how your dedication to work and status may be negatively impacting your comfort, which could quite literally indicate that your home is in need of some love. On an internal level, you may be suffering from anxiety and restlessness with thoughts of work continually circling at the back of your mind, when what you really need is to take your foot off the gas pedal and give yourself some much-needed self-care.

As a Leo, you can be the king or queen of comfort, but you also push yourself to create a royal palace. The problem is, burning the candle at both ends for a few more dollars, a chance at a promotion or as a means of chasing fame can scatter your energy internally and disrupt your inner peace. Just as a seed fails to germinate in infertile soil, you cannot expect to reach your highest aspirations without solidifying a sense of security. A move may be in store for some.

Virgo
Aug. 23–Sept. 22

This full moon lunar eclipse is happening for you in a part of the sky that deals with communication, short-distance travel and your perception, dear Virgo. In opposition to Uranus in your ninth house, this could mean you are becoming aware of limiting beliefs that are keeping you from stepping out in a more expansive way. For some, this could be about a yearning to travel, go back to school or reach a wider audience being stymied by your own faulty perception mixed with a loyalty you’ve developed for completing mundane daily tasks.

In a sense, your drive to organize your world has walled you into a life lacking in spontaneity and adventure. This doesn’t mean you need to take high risks. But it does mean identifying the habitual patterns perpetuating an inner stagnancy. Pay attention to the words or ideas sprung on you that are embedding themselves. Perhaps they point to a deeper self-narrative that needs to be dismantled. Disruptions to travel should be expected.

Libra
Sept. 23–Oct. 22

This full moon lunar eclipse is happening in a part of the sky that for you deals with self-worth and self-esteem, dear Libra. In opposition to Uranus in your eighth house, this energy could manifest as a disturbance to money coming from tax returns, inheritances, loans or scholarships, as well as shared resources or passive income, that forces you to make a change in order to bring in more money.

This could lead you to gain deeper insight into your attitude around external resources and how that may be holding you back from a greater sense of financial freedom. The eclipse will push you to consider the relationship between the money you make and what you feel that you deserve. For some, this could be about asking for a raise or promotion, looking elsewhere for a new opportunity or starting a side hustle.

Scorpio
Oct. 23–Nov. 21

The lunar eclipse is happening in your sign, dear Scorpio, bringing profound culminations to areas dealing with your identity and physical body. This is a big moment of truth. In opposition to Uranus in your seventh house of one-on-one partnerships, this eclipse is forcing you to confront how other people are contributing to or inhibiting your personal growth.

You are wanting to step onto the greater stage of life and into your own power, but the eclipse is unveiling relationships in your life that are holding you back. For some, this person could be you, and the challenge is for you to ask for help, rather than try to go it alone. Soliciting the help of others does not diminish your power — it, in many cases, helps you go further.

Sagittarius
Nov. 22–Dec. 21

The lunar eclipse is happening in a part of the sky that for your deals with dreams and the subconscious, dear Sagittarius. This is about faith, the trust you have in what cannot be seen and also implicates hidden matters being uncovered. Of all the signs, you may be in for the biggest revelation, as far as something now becoming exposed that drastically alters some aspect of life.

In opposition to Uranus in your sixth house of health, work and daily routine, this eclipse may be revealing to you the habits that are fueling deep-rooted psychological distress or self-destructive patterns and inhibiting you from pursuing something related to the arts or spirituality. And all of this is perpetuating a yearning to escape and draining you of a desire to go after what you really want on a soul level.

Capricorn
Dec. 22–Jan. 19

This lunar eclipse is happening for you in a part of the sky that deals with friendships, technology and future outlook, dear Capricorn. In opposition to Uranus in your fifth house of creativity, pleasure and children, you are having to confront ways in which you may be keeping yourself from creating the future you want due to beliefs around what you creatively produce or feelings around parenthood.

Some could realize that what they thought would make them happy is not and want to break free to do something entirely different. This is about your future and identifying where it is you’ve gotten off track. Even a slight derailment is still a derailment, and in years’ time will lead you to an entirely different outcome. You also could feel that what you create isn’t up to the standards of some group or affiliation you hope to join, and as a result, shrink your dream down into something more practical. Find what sparks joy and follow it.

Aquarius
Jan. 20–Feb. 18

This lunar eclipse for you is happening in a part of the sky that deals with career and public reputation, dear Aquarius. In opposition to your modern ruling planet, Uranus, in your fourth house of home and inner security, you are being shown how matters related to your inner peace and home life are conflicting with your career or status.

For some, this could mean that you realize now that you cannot continue with the career you currently have and decide to strike off in a new way. Or this could mean that you may need to move in order to take the next step in your career. Others could experience downsizing and find themselves out of a job. Or, on the other hand, you are happy with your career but issues or obligations at home are making it more difficult for you to enjoy what you do. Regardless, what you find is that you are not as adrift as you think. Rely on your inner navigation.

Pisces
Feb. 19 – March 20

This lunar eclipse is happening in a part of the sky that for you deals with long-distance travel,  beliefs, and philosophical approach to life, dear Pisces. In opposition to Uranus in the third house of communication and perception, this eclipse is pushing you toward a paradigm shift. This is about the student becoming the teacher; the teacher becoming the mentor. But first, you are needing to confront the skills needed that are holding you back from expanding.

You may feel that you don’t have an adequate education for what you want to do. For instance, you may desire to reach a greater audience, but you need to learn how to use a technological platform. You may feel some mental confusion due to a drastic shift in your outlook. The issue is believing that it’s too late or too difficult to step out in the direction you desire. Take the time now to research educational programs to find out exactly what you need. You may find an accelerated program or realize that the gap isn’t as wide as you think.
