ST. GEORGE — While those in Southern Utah won’t have the advantage of seeing the moon eclipse the sun this week, Wednesday’s cosmic phenomenon will trigger a ripple effect of change that will linger for up to six months.

Marking the first of the Aries-Libra eclipses, a total solar eclipse in Aries at 29 degrees on Wednesday, April 19, will reach its maximum eclipse at 10:16 p.m. MDT.

A solar eclipse occurs when the new moon, positioned between the sun and Earth, casts a shadow over Earth. During a total solar eclipse, the moon blocks out the sun entirely, darkening the sky.

Astrologically speaking, during the eclipse season, what once felt secure is destabilized. When the foundation breaks, we may still land on our feet but the surrounding environment will be unrecognizable in some way, as a reflection of the parts of ourselves that no longer exist.

As the late German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “The snake that cannot cast has to die,” which referred to the hindrance of growth underlying a stubbornness to change one’s perception.

In Aries, the first sign of the Zodiac, a solar eclipse tests our ambition and pushes us to boldly achieve our goals and establish a sense of independence. The last time a solar eclipse occurred in approximately the same place was almost 20 years ago on April 19, 2004.

As with all new moons, a solar eclipse initiates a renewal of energy — but on a much more potent level — with its effects.

So what does all of this mean for your sign? Find out below.

Aries
March 21-April 19

With the eclipse happening in your sign, this speaks to major shifts in your first house of self, dear Aries, pushing you to understand yourself in the deepest sense. Under this monthslong influence, change is happening on the physical level, so you want to pay particular attention to things like your diet, sleeping habits and how you present yourself to the world. You may notice dramatic shifts in your energy or desire to completely transform your style.

This also deals with how you express yourself, especially in terms of anger or frustration, as well as your drive and how you direct your energy toward goals. It’s best to find ways to ground yourself during this time, as you may be overcome with sporadic rushes of adrenaline or stress.

Taurus
April 20-May 20

Wednesday’s eclipse is shaking up matters related to a part of the sky that for you deals with beliefs and the subconscious, dear Taurus. A secret could be revealed at this time that profoundly alters your direction, or you could become aware of an unconscious habit that needs attention. This could indicate addictive patterns coming to light, not necessarily addictions to drugs or alcohol, but anything you may be using as a means to distract.

Something could happen in the next six months that forces you to let go of anything that no longer serves you. Those who are born right around April 20 will feel this the most intensely. This also is a time of clearing. Think about ways in which you need to forgive yourself or someone else and move on.

Gemini
May 21–June 20

You may see a dramatic change to your social circle or completely alter the trajectory of your future over the next six months, dear Gemini, as Wednesday’s solar eclipse is happening in a part of the sky that for you deals with friends and future hopes. Under this monthslong influence, issues may arise that cause a separation from a friend or a group. Or perhaps your role within a group is going to change and requires you to learn a new skill, particularly in terms of technology.

This energy is about taking a stand and finding like-minded people in an effort to work toward a shared goal. The eclipse also may reveal people in your life that are inhibiting your way forward. If people leave your life, it’s likely best to let them go. There is an opportunity for love, especially with someone you consider a friend.

Cancer
June 21–July 22

A change to your career or public reputation may be headed your way, dear Cancer, as this eclipse is happening in a part of the sky that for you deals with status and achievement. Under this monthslong influence, you’re being asked to take a serious look at your career. Do you feel fulfilled? Is the money you’re making worth your time? Is there something else calling out to you? Is it time for a promotion?

If you’re feeling stuck, this eclipse is triggering you to make a change. But that doesn’t mean you should jump without looking, which isn’t likely for a Cancer. Rather, it means taking a heartfelt look at how you’re spending your time and what you hope to achieve in this life and then making steps toward it. Some could meet a person now who helps push them out of their shell.

Leo
July 23–August 22

For you, dear Leo, this eclipse is happening in a part of the sky that deals with long-distance travel, higher learning and your philosophical outlook on life. If you’ve been wanting to travel but haven’t, it’s time to consider what’s holding you back. What steps can you take now to see a part of the world you’ve long wanted to see?

This also could indicate a legal matter rising to the surface or a need to deal with paperwork or submit documentation. Perhaps this has to do with going back to school or finally acquiring a passport. For Leos in any type of literary or teaching field, you may be pushed to complete a project or take the next step to progress your career forward. Something may happen around the eclipse that drastically reshapes your beliefs.

Virgo
Aug. 23–Sept. 22

Wednesday’s eclipse for you, dear Virgo, is happening in a part of the sky that deals with intimacy, shared resources and power. Under this monthslong influence, relationships are being pushed now in the deepest sense toward a sense of merging. It is no longer about the “I” but the “we” in order to expand in ways that can only be manifested with another person. For others, a change with whom you share resources could impact your sense of stability.

It’s time to examine your investments, both on a material and non-material level, and identify how you might reduce or eliminate debt. This energy also deals with passive income streams, and some Virgos may see a boost to their income or start a side hustle. For those desiring to start a business, wait for a few days to pass after the eclipse, when the moon’s crescent is once again visible.

Libra
Sept. 23–Oct. 22

This week’s solar eclipse is happening in a part of the sky that deals with one-on-one relationships and contracts, dear Libra, indicating dramatic changes in relationships. But this goes beyond just romantic relationships — this is about gaining a deeper understanding of how you relate to others. If you’re wanting to bring more people into your life, are you taking the necessary steps to achieve that? If so, are you drawing in the types of people who positively impact your overall well-being?

Under this monthslong influence, you may begin to see people in a new way, even ones you’ve known for quite some time. It’s time to evaluate the balance of reciprocation with whom you spend time. Are you giving more than you’re receiving or vice versa? Circumstances now may force you to balance the scales.

Scorpio
Oct. 23–Nov. 21

Wednesday’s solar eclipse is happening in a part of the sky that for you deals with health, work and your daily routine, dear Scorpio. Whatever is hindering you on a day-to-day basis is coming sharply into focus. If you’ve been hanging onto a habit, this energy will be pushing you to quit. This could be in terms of a bad diet, people-pleasing or ways in which you’ve been mismanaging your time.

Under this influence, it’s better to be proactive. Take a step back and evaluate what can be purged from your daily life to make room for new energy. This could mean quite literally clearing out and organizing your workspace. Changing unhealthy patterns often isn’t about major upheavals; it’s about zeroing in on the small pieces that make up a day.

Sagittarius
Nov. 22–Dec. 21

This solar eclipse is impacting a part of the sky that for you deals with creativity, children and matters held closely to the heart, dear Sagittarius. What you consider fun could change during this monthslong influence. This could relate to hobbies or activities you share with a partner or your children. Is there a creative project you’ve been pushing to the side that needs to be completed? Have you been suppressing your creativity at the expense of getting caught up in the mundane?

If so, this energy is pushing you to take creative risks and put yourself out there in terms of what your heart truly desires to express. If you’ve felt creatively stagnant, finding time to have fun can stoke the fire. In terms of romance, this eclipse may reveal the ways in which you are stifling your own needs. And if you want more romance, you may need to help another with co-creation.

Capricorn
Dec. 22–Jan. 19

Wednesday’s solar eclipse is bringing change to a foundational part of the sky for you, dear Capricorn, which is testing your security. For some, this has to do with your home. You may be pushed to move or deal with matters related to the home. But it also has to do with what you define as “home” and whether you have established an inner sense of security. Under this monthslong influence, you may come to realize that what you believed to be sturdy is not.

You are being asked to find grounding during times of drift, and you may experience emotional turbulence at this time that further destabilizes you. But it’s in this type of environment that Capricorn shines. After all, you are the mountain goat with unshakeable tenacity. For some, a change could happen that deals with a maternal figure. Be mindful that you do not get hung up on the past, as this energy can heighten feelings of nostalgia.

Aquarius
Jan. 20–Feb. 18

The solar eclipse happening in a part of the sky that for you deals with communication, perception and short-distance travel, dear Aquarius. Under this monthslong influence, your modes of expression and how you think are being put to the test. This is about how you relay information and where muddied thought is hindering connection with others and your own progression. It’s all about refining your voice.

If you’ve been avoiding a difficult conversation, you are being challenged now to say what you really think. And by doing so, you’ll likely discover something new that reshapes your perception. Sudden insight also could arise from overhearing a conversation or something you see in the media. Troubles with transportation can also happen, and you may need to purchase a new vehicle or find an alternative mode of transportation.

Pisces
Feb. 19 – March 20

For you, dear Pisces, this solar eclipse will impact a part of your life that has to do with values, self-esteem and personal finances. Under this monthslong influence, you’re being challenged to assess your values and how you value yourself. Are you making the money you’re worth? Are you receiving as much as you’re giving in relationships? Are you depriving yourself of things that you wouldn’t deprive others of?

As a Pisces, you are known to put other’s needs before your own, but to what extent are you doing this? If you have become so far disconnected from your own needs, this eclipse will reveal the gap and push you to start investing in yourself. For some, this could indicate a change in financial resources, such as leaving a job, retiring or seeing an adjustment when it comes to a passive stream of income.
