Donna Marie Lunnen Coulson

Sept. 17, 1948-March 11, 2023

Donna Marie Lunnen Coulson passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2023, in St. George, Utah, after a long illness. She was the second child of Robert M. and Donna L. (Hunt) Lunnen. She was born on Sept. 17, 1948 in Oahu, Hawaii.

Donna was married to Craig Coulson in Elko, Nevada, on June 24, 1972, and they were sealed for all eternity on Jan. 29, 1983, in the Jordan River Temple. She had three children: Robert Michael (Shae) Seattle, Washington; Jason Christopher Salt Lake City, Utah; and Kelly Tyson (Burgen Zohner) St. George, Utah. Her grandchildren are Kaden, Dylan, Kierra, Brayden, Logen, Zyen, Marrissa, Mikeyla and Mariyah.

She was preceded in death by her son Kelly, sister Doree, brother Edmund and her parents. Her surviving siblings are Georgia Perry (Boyd), Lindy Brown (Bruce), Robert Lunnen (Valerie) and Teresa Stokes (John).

Donna suffered with many health issues in her life. However, that didn’t stop her from enjoying life to the fullest. She was a great seamstress and made several wedding dresses and clothes for her grandchildren. She even sewed costumes for the 2002 winter Olympics. She loved art and converted to making ceramics once she moved to St. George.

Halloween and Christmas were her favorite holidays. She decorated her yard and home for the occasions and delighted in seeing her family open Christmas presents.

Donna and Craig served on a service mission for the LDS Church. As part of their work, they met many refugees from Africa. In particular, she met a refugee child named Jebbah and served as her compassionate friend for many years supporting her through multiple serious operations and helping her graduate from Murray High School. They became life-long friends and have talked every day for years

Donna loved her family and the LDS Church. She loved working with kids. Her favorite assignments were to lead the singing in the primary and working in the nursery. She received great joy from the annual program where children sang and performed.

Donna loved to be part of the action at her family’s annual reunion held in Torrey, Utah. Her kids and grandkids loved the red rock vistas in Wayne County. She served at the reunion for many years. It was Donna’s creativity and artful nature that made the reunion so special.

Donna was a visionary. She opened the first skateboard park in Salt Lake City. She called it Mrs. C’s Skate. A lot of hard work went into building and running the park. Mrs. C’s provided a fun and safe place for the skaters in the Salt Lake valley to gather, skate and listen to the loud music they loved. The highlight of the park was a demonstration by Tony Hawk who was and is the greatest skater in the world. The idea was before its time in Salt Lake.

The Salt Lake winters were very difficult for Donna. For her safety and well-being, we moved her to St. George in 2011.  Pain remained a constant companion for Donna, but she made the best of it.

Donna will be missed very much, but we are also happy she will no longer deal with pain and will be able to see and hug the many family members who have gone to the other side of the veil.

A viewing will be held at Pine View Mortuary in St. George at 566 N Mall Dr. St. George, Utah, on Friday, March 17, from 6-7 p.m.
