Gerald Wayne Burgie

Gerald Wayne Burgie, 83, died peacefully in his sleep Friday, May 20, 2022, at his home in Santa Clara. He was born May 6, 1939, in Ogden, Utah, to Don L and Verda Hope Burgie. He graduated from Ogden High School and served an LDS mission to the Northwestern states of Oregon, Washington and Idaho.

He married Colleen Earl in August 1966 in the Salt Lake City LDS temple. They had two children — a daughter Janis and a son Brent. They were married for 16 years and later divorced. In 1986 Gerald married Shirley Olsen at their home in Kearns, Utah. They were married 17 years before Shirley passed away from cancer. Gerald and Shirley moved to Santa Clara in 1998. Gerald worked for the Highway Patrol for 16 years as a radio technician. He also worked for Deseret Manufacturing as a maintenance supervisor for 12 years. His hobbies included genealogy and restoring antique cars.

He is survived by his brother Lyle Burgie of Salt Lake City, his daughter Janis Flinders of Syracuse, Utah, his son Brent Burgie of Layton and his stepson Richard Howe (Yvonne) of Orem; five grandchildren Brooke Walters (Manuel Zamora) of Salt Lake CIty, Jason Flinders, Morgan, Logan Flinders, Morgan, Rachel Burgie (Daniel Makin) of Salt Lake City and Julie Burgie of Salt Lake City.

He is preceded in death by his parents Don L and Verda Hope Burgie, older brother Jay L Burgie, younger sister Sharilyn Postal and wife Shirley Burgie.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends who love him. A viewing will be held at Serenity Funeral Home, 1316 South 400 East Suite A5, St George, on June 4, 10-11 a.m, with funeral services to follow.
