ST. GEORGE — An alternative way to enjoy the beauty of Zion National Park is through the park’s webcam. The park’s webcam is pointed toward one of its most iconic views, the Temples and Towers of the Virgin.

“We know folks enjoy seeing Zion, and that’s why we share real-time views of the park on our website,” Jonathan Shafer, park spokesman, told St. George News. “Our Temples and Towers webcam faces one of the best-known and most famous areas of Zion.”

The area in front of the camera is not lit up in the evening. But, Shafer said that means there is an advantage of the lack of light; one can see the night sky better.

“As an International Dark Sky Park, there are exceptional views to enjoy because of the dark,” Shafer said. “So, whether you visit our webcam by day or make the trip to see our night skies after dark, there’s no end of interesting scenery here in Zion.”

Shafer added that the National Park Service works with partners to share up-to-date information about the conditions in Zion National Park. The National Weather Service shares regular forecasts and flash flood potential during the spring, summer, and fall. The U.S. Geological Survey shares real-time updates about the water level in the Virgin River.

“We work with local and state partners as well as the media to share updates about road conditions and traffic,” Shafer said.
