UHP: 55-year-old man dies in Iron County motorcycle crash

ST. GEORGE — A motorcycle rider died after crashing on his motorcycle on state Route 56 Sunday afternoon.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m., a 55-year-old man was traveling west on SR-56 when he “failed to negotiate a turn” near mile marker 48, Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Clay Allred told St. George News. The motorcycle left the roadway on the right and the rider reportedly sustained “very serious injuries” from the crash.

An Intermountain Life Flight helicopter was dispatched to the scene to airlift the man to a nearby hospital, Allred said, adding that the rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Allred later said the rider died from his injuries. Gold Cross Ambulance also responded to the incident.

The Iron County crash came on the heels of a fatal collision in Washington County on Sunday morning at the intersection of Coral Canyon Boulevard and Telegraph Street.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, another incident involving a motorcycle occurred on northbound Interstate 15 near Scipio. The Utah Department of Transportation reported lane closures of up to one hour while the scene was cleared.
