The collision, which was reported shortly before 3:40 p.m., occurred at the intersection of Cross Hollow Road and Providence Center Drive and involved a blue BMW sedan and a silver Chevrolet HHR SUV.

Cedar City Police Sgt. Justin Ludlow said the woman driving the BMW was heading east on Cross Hollow Road when the vehicle entered the intersection on a red light and struck the Chevrolet, which had been heading south through the intersection.

The driver of the Chevrolet, who reportedly complained of chest pain, along with possible head and neck injuries, was transported via Gold Cross Ambulance to Cedar City Hospital, Ludlow said.

Meanwhile, the two occupants of the BMW were both evaluated by medical personnel at the scene but were not taken to the hospital.

“The driver of the BMW said one of her arms hurt,” Ludlow said, adding that she received a citation for failing to obey a traffic signal.

Traffic in and around the busy intersection was impacted for approximately 30-40 minutes as emergency responders worked to clear the scene.

In addition to multiple Cedar City Police officers, personnel from Cedar City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance also responded to the incident.

Both cars sustained heavy front-end damage and were towed from the scene.

This report is based on preliminary statements from law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings
