The 2024 Dixie Roundup Rodeo will be held Sept. 12-14 at the historic Dixie Sunbowl in downtown St. George. Packed with plenty of patriotism and community pride, you won’t want to miss it.

“I think it’s the longest-standing event we have in St. George,” rodeo co-chairman Wade Milne said. “It’s a great community event that brings everybody together. It’s just a great time.”

Reserved ticket sales will begin on Friday, Aug. 2. Tickets cost $22 per person and offer a guaranteed place to sit with the best views of the arena. Click here to access the ticketing link.

Starting on Sept. 7, general admission tickets will be available to purchase from the St. George Lions office at 301 E. 100 South or by calling 435-673-3301. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. General admission tickets cost $17 per adult and $5 for kids age 11 and under; kids age 2 and under who can sit on a parent’s lap are free. Gates open nightly at 6 p.m.

Thursday is always family night, when kids ages 11 and under can enter for free and spend their money on the St. George Lions’ “world-famous” hamburgers and hot dogs instead.

On Friday, $1 from every ticket sold will be donated to the Intermountain Foundation to benefit local breast cancer patients, and both spectators and rodeo participants are encouraged to show support by wearing pink.

Saturday is the action-packed rodeo finals, which sells out every year and features some of the best cowboys and cowgirls the West has to offer competing alongside local stars.

Bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, team roping, tie-down roping, steer wrestling and barrel racing are among the nightly attractions — plus mutton busting for the kids. And don’t miss a dazzling specialty act sure to delight audiences of all ages. The Dixie Roundup Rodeo is sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association, the world’s largest rodeo organization.

Hosted by the St. George Lions every year since 1934, the Dixie Roundup Rodeo remains a beloved event for generations of Southern Utah locals. Some even plan their vacations or family reunions around it.

The rodeo started as a small event organized by the founding members of the St. George Lions, most of whom were involved with the ranching industry in one way or another. The Dixie Sunbowl has been the event’s home ever since it opened in the late 1940s. At the time of its construction, the St. George Lions were about 60 members strong, and each donated $100 along with plenty of “sweat equity” to help build the arena.

Today, the rodeo serves as the only source of revenue for the St. George Lions and supports their contributions to scholarship funds, rodeo clubs, collegiate sports teams, and 4-H and Future Farmers of America high school programs in Washington County. A portion of the proceeds also fund the local arm of the Lions International initiative to improve quality of life for the visually impaired.

“It’s a tradition; it’s part of our heritage,” rodeo chairman Chad Drake said. “It’s something we look forward to every September.”
