Late afternoon Sunday, law enforcement was dispatched to Quail Creek State Park after receiving reports that a 56-year-old woman was in distress while hiking the Quail Creek South Overlook Trail. She reportedly did not have enough water in 106-degree weather, according to a news release issued by the Hurricane City Police Department’s public information officer Doug Thornton.

When the woman was located, she was unresponsive, and “life saving measures were conducted,” the release states.

“Unfortunately, those efforts were not enough to save her,” Thornton wrote, adding that the woman’s name has not been released yet due to an ongoing investigation into the incident.

“Our thanks to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Hurricane Valley Fire and the State of Utah Department of Natural Resources for their assistance. Our heart felt condolences go out to the family.”

This report is based on statements from police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
