CEDAR CITY — A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash just east of Brian Head early Saturday afternoon, officials said.

The incident occurred near mile marker 11 on state Route 143.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Clay Allred said that according to witnesses, the rider was traveling about 30 mph when, for reasons unknown, he failed to negotiate a curve and went off the roadway.

The rider was not wearing a helmet nor any other protective gear at the time of the crash, Allred said.

Brian Head Marshal Dan Benson described the rider as a 45-year-old man from northern Utah and added that the bike was a Harley-Davidson.

“Brian Head Marshals responded and provided initial assessments,” Benson told Cedar City News. “Life Flight was called and transported the patient.”

As of Monday afternoon, there has been no further word regarding the injured man’s condition.

Brian Head Fire Department assisted with traffic control at the scene, while UHP troopers handled the investigation.

This report is based on preliminary statements from law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings
