CEDAR CITY — A motorcyclist escaped serious injury after crashing his bike on state Route 20 on Wednesday evening, police said.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Clay Allred said a 58-year-old man was riding a Harley Davidson east on SR-20 when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road near mile marker 11.

“When the trooper arrived, he was up walking around and able to answer questions,” Allred told Cedar City News shortly before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, less than one hour after the incident reportedly occurred.

“Preliminarily, it appears he had minor injuries but was transferred to a local hospital for evaluation,” Allred added.

As previously reported in St. George News / Cedar City News, there have been multiple incidents involving motorcycles along that same stretch of SR-20 in recent years, including a fatal crash two years ago.

Allred said the rider involved in Wednesday night’s crash was wearing a helmet and full riding gear.

“For those out riding motorcycles, please wear a helmet and protective gear as they may be the difference between minor injuries and severe injuries or death if a crash occurs,” he said.

“Speed on our busy mountain roads tend to be a major crash contributor this time of year whether in a car or on a motorcycle,” Allred added. ” We ask people to be patient and to follow the posted speed limit signs and all caution signs.”

This report is based on information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
