UPDATED: Wind, lightning take down power poles; power restored in St. George

ST. GEORGE — A quickly moving storm cell that moved through St. George Saturday night brought brief heavy winds and rain, dragging down power lines and causing power outages in over 3,400 homes around the city.

City of St. George Communications Director David Cordero texted with St. George News after 9 p.m. and confirmed some details.

“Wind and lightning have downed some transmission poles,” Cordero said. “Crews are on it.”

Cordero said city crews are working with St. George Energy Services to get power restored as soon as possible.

Updated at 10:20 p.m. on July 13: City of St. George Communications Director David Cordero reports that power has been restored to many of the homes.

“Most people are back in power,” Cordero said. “We still have about 1,100 without.”

Updated at 12:15 a.m. on July 14: City of St. George Communications Director David Cordero reports that power has been restored to all homes.
