The incident, which was reported at 10:47 a.m., occurred at approximately 850 North Airport Road and primarily involved a green motorcycle with an adult female rider and a red Chevrolet Corvette with two adult passengers.

Cedar City Police Sgt. Tim Bonzo said the woman on the motorcycle was heading south on Airport Road when the driver of the Corvette attempted to make a U-turn from the middle lane into the southbound lane.

After impacting the front end of the Corvette, the bike and its rider then slid into the back of a stationary third vehicle, a silver Toyota RAV-4 SUV whose driver, Cedar City Council member Carter Wilkey, had just parked alongside the curb.

The motorcyclist was evaluated at the scene by Gold Cross Ambulance personnel, who treated her for cuts to her lower leg and other minor injuries.

“She had protective gear on, as far as a jacket and a helmet,” Bonzo noted.

Meanwhile, the female passenger of the Corvette was also checked out by medical personnel at the scene for possible minor injuries, Bonzo added.

Neither the Corvette driver nor Wilkey, who was the lone occupant of the Toyota, reported any injuries.

Both the Corvette and the motorcycle were disabled in the crash and needed to be removed by tow trucks. Meanwhile, the Toyota sustained minor rear-end damage and was still drivable.

Bonzo said at the scene that the Corvette driver would likely be cited for making an improper U-turn.

While the scene was being investigated, several other Corvettes were also seen pulling up and parking nearby; they were members of the Color Country Corvette Club who were participating in an organized ride.

The incident prompted the closure of Airport Road in both directions for at least 30 minutes while the scene was cleared. That caused some congestion, as RCS Rocket Motor Components was hosting its grand opening ceremony for its new facility at that location.

Cedar City Fire Department personnel also responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary statements from law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
