On June 20, Cedar City Police Department officers responded to Family Dollar on north Main Street in Cedar City to a report of a theft.

After concluding their investigation, Kristina Williams, 43, was arrested for second-degree felony theft charges and booked into the Iron County Correctional Facility, according to court documents filed in the 5th District Court.

In the probable cause statement supporting the arrest, the arresting officer stated the manager at Family Dollar was performing routine data entry and noticed three bank deposit receipts that were allegedly “not given by the bank.”

The manager further provided officers with store surveillance footage allegedly showing a store employee removing items from the store safe. In total, $5,770 was reported to be missing from the store, the officer stated.

“I observed Kristina walk behind the counter, open the safe and take the deposits. After which she exited the store,” the arresting officer wrote. “Due to the existing evidence, Kristina Williams was arrested and booked into the Iron County jail.”

Due to the amount of money missing, Williams was charged with a second-degree felony theft by deception.

The penalties for second-degree felonies in Utah range between 1-15 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000, plus any jail fees, fines and restitution costs, according to the Utah courts website.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
