Emergency personnel could be seen at the intersection of River Road and Commerce Drive Tuesday morning following a crash that occurred just after 7 a.m. St. George crews worked to clean up a gas spill while officers directed traffic around a lime-green Chevy Spark that sat with its front end heavily damaged.

Tiffany Mitchell, public information officer for the St. George Police Department, told St. George News the crash occurred at approximately 7:01 a.m. when a southbound cement truck on River Road collided with the Chevy while turning left onto Commerce Drive.

The driver of the cement truck failed to yield and struck the rear passenger side of the northbound Chevy, causing the airbags to deploy. The 16-year-old driver of the Chevy sustained minor injuries, while the driver of the cement truck was cited for failure to yield on a left turn, Mitchell said.

The St. George Police Department, Gold Cross Ambulance and the St. George Fire Department responded to the scene.

The Chevy was towed from the scene.

Mitchell urged drivers to make safer choices behind the wheel, emphasizing the importance of reflecting on their driving habits and correcting any unsafe behaviors.

“Do you constantly speed?” Mitchell asked. “Practice slowing down. Do you tailgate? Put more space between your car and the one in front of you. Constantly frustrated while driving? Take a breath. You’re not in a competition, so share the road.”

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
