CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — The award-winning restaurant Katherine’s Steakhouse at the CasaBlanca Resort & Casino and the popular Race & Sports Book and gaming floor at the Virgin River Hotel & Casino will undergo extensive renovations this year, according to Mesquite Gaming, the parent company of both properties.

Decades have passed since significant renovations were made to either property, and Mesquite Gaming CEO Justin Moore said that he’s thrilled to showcase the company’s reinvestment in the community of Mesquite.

“These exciting projects further illustrate our commitment to upgrade the quality of these two destination properties for our guests and employees,” he added. “I can’t wait to see the reaction from our guests when they see this beautiful, brand-new sports book and the amazing new lounge at Katherine’s.”

Katherine’s Steakhouse at the CasaBlanca, recently voted the gold winner for Best Restaurant by the readers of Nevada’s largest newspaper, will undergo remodeling to create a beautiful new lounge and expanded bar area. Designed for guests who don’t have time to enjoy a complete fine dining experience, the lounge will feature new “quick eats” menu options. These offerings will be in addition to the already celebrated food and beverage favorites on the current menu.

“Much thought has been given to how we will retain the most popular features that both locations currently offer, while presenting even more enjoyable experiences,” Moore added.

The new Race & Sports Book at the Virgin River Hotel & Casino will feature a state-of-the-art gathering place for enjoying and wagering on horse racing and sporting events in Mesquite. The expansion will include several new 85-inch monitors along with a huge 53-foot-wide by 10-foot-high video wall. It will also include 90 additional slot machines for the gaming floor.

“Guests will be amazed when they see it completed,” Moore said. “It’s going to be the best sports viewing experience in the region.”

Renovations will begin in the coming weeks, and the new Race & Sports Book is expected to be open by the middle of October – just in time for the NFL playoffs and the start of the NBA and NHL seasons. The Virgin River will also receive new flooring in the bowling alley and several new arcade games.

These improvements are in addition to the recently announced $6 million renovations at the CasaBlanca, which include a new Center Bar, sports bar and 200 more slots on the gaming floor.

“We will continue to update and refresh many aspects of both properties on an ongoing basis,” Moore said. “We want to continue this experience of making Virgin River the favorite locals’ casino and CasaBlanca a true affordable resort destination.”

ECL Development, a national firm with extensive gaming industry experience, is handling the project management. Harris Associates, an accomplished Las Vegas gaming and hospitality construction company, will serve as the general contracting firm. Steelman Partners, an international architecture and interior design firm, is responsible for the designs at the CasaBlanca. JIVE, a premier casino architecture firm in Las Vegas, is creating the designs at the Virgin River property.

Beyond gaming, both properties feature a variety of offerings and amenities to suit every interest. The CasaBlanca boasts a spacious pool and 18 holes of championship golf, while guests of the Virgin River can enjoy buffet dining, bingo, arcade games and some of the cheapest hotel rooms in town.

“There’s nothing like it in the region,” Moore said. “It’s certainly the No. 1 destination for entertainment.”
