National Park Service investigates death of 41-year-old man at Grand Canyon

GRAND CANYON, Ariz.   The National Park Service is investigating after a man was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the Grand Canyon National Park.

On June 16 at approximately 6:45 a.m., the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report of an unresponsive hiker on the Bright Angel Trail, approximately a half mile east of the Pipe Creek River Resthouse, states a news release issued by the U.S. Department of the Interior.

All attempts by bystanders and National Park Service personnel to resuscitate the individual were unsuccessful, according to the release. The 41-year-old man reportedly was hiking out of the canyon from an overnight stay at the Bright Angel Campground near Phantom Ranch.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service in coordination with the Coconino County Medical Examiner.

No additional information has been released as of this report.
