Shortly after 6:30 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for Iron County that is expected to last until 8:30 p.m. Southern Utahns could expect minor flooding in low-lying areas or those with poor drainage, water on roadways, and rising water levels in small streams and dry washes, particularly in the rural areas about 7 miles west of Cedar City along state Route 56.

Earlier in the evening, information from the Doppler radar indicated that Iron County could expect heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, with approximately 1-2 inches of precipitation, the weather service states.

The National Weather Service advises the public to take several precautionary actions, such as avoiding flooded roads.

“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads,” the agency states. “Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.”
