ST. GEORGE — Those who love exploring new places but want to skip the expense of entrance fees are in for a treat this Saturday, as all national parks will offer free park entrance.
National Park Week runs April 20-28 and celebrates the joy and wonder of national parks.
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area will join the national parks nationwide in this celebration, according to a news release issued by the National Park Service. Glen Canyon’s 1.25-million-acre stretch from Lees Ferry in Arizona to the Orange Cliffs of southern Utah encompasses scenic vistas, geologic wonders, proposed wilderness areas, and a vast panorama of human history.
In alignment with the National Park Service’s 2024 theme days outlined below. Glen Canyon also included ways to join the celebration.
Saturday, April 20: Discovery. To kick off National Park Week and encourage new discovery, entrance fees are waived on Saturday. Join local partners at the annual community cleanup, Page Attacks Trash from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
Sunday, April 21: Volunteers. Use extra time and talents as a volunteer in local national parks. Visit Glen Canyon volunteer opportunities for a single event or long-term position.
Monday, April 22: Earth Day. Join the global celebration encouraging education and stewardship of the planet’s natural resources. Many parks are hosting volunteer events or find ways to practice conservation at home.
Tuesday, April 23: Innovation. Learn the history of our nation’s innovation is preserved in national parks. Also learn about the innovative projects happening in local parks or through our programs today.
Wednesday, April 24: Workforce Wednesday. Meet Glen Canyon’s incredible workforce of employees, interns, fellows, volunteers, contractors, partners and more. Consider joining their team.
Thursday, April 25: Youth Engagement. Calling the rising generation of stewards. Learn about the opportunities for youth and young adults to get involved and see what peers with similar interests are up to.
Friday, April 26: Community Connections. Learn about the important work national park programs and partners are doing in communities across the country both within and outside of our park boundaries.
Saturday, April 27: Junior Ranger Day. For kids (and kids at heart), become a Junior Ranger through in-person or online activities to learn about special places or topics. Participants can even earn a Junior Ranger badge.
Sunday, April 28: Arts in Parks. Home of many arts, past and present, find your muse creating arts within parks.
