What’s on the Menu: A tour of desserts in the desert | Sponsored by CasaBlanca Resort & Casino

ST. GEORGE — This week, “What’s on the Menu” host Sheldon Demke met up with his buddy Tom Callister of Linx Commercial Real Estate for a tour of downtown St. George’s most delicious desserts.

Downtown St. George is the place to be. Take a stroll along tree-lined streets where historic homes have been transformed into shopping and dining establishments. And now that the weather is pretty much perfect, many of them offer outdoor seating.

Get a taste of delicious local desserts with Sheldon and Tom in this week’s episode of “What’s on the Menu” in the media player above.

First, the duo went to Cappeletti’s, the family-owned bistro at 36 E. Tabernacle St. that has been delighting local foodies with traditional Italian dishes for over a decade. And nothing says “Italian dessert” quite like a classic tiramisu.

“The thing I love about great restaurants is the presentation,” Callister said. “Look at these layers, and a little of dust of cinnamon on the outside.”

In the heart of the historic district at 25 N. Main St., Demke and Callister found Pica Rica BBQ and their scrumptious smoked peach pie. Although dessert might not be what comes to mind when you think about a barbecue eatery, Pica Rica BBQ aims to change that with their fresh takes on American favorites.

“You can literally smell it from across the room. That’s when you know it’s good,”  Demke said. “You come for the desserts, stay for the barbecue.”

Coffee and pastries go hand in hand, and just down the road is FS Coffee Co on 14 W. Tabernacle St. serving both. And don’t forget George’s Corner Restaurant, a staple of Southern Utah’s dining scene, with their spicy yet sweet Mexican chocolate latte.

Is your sweet tooth tingling yet? Now get downtown and try these desserts!
