According to St. George Police officer Tiffany Mitchell, a white pickup truck was eastbound on George Washington Boulevard. Meanwhile, she said, a silver SUV approached the intersection northbound on 3000 E.

The SUV entered the intersection under a green light. The pickup was under a red light, Mitchell said, but the driver was unable to engage the brakes.

The pickup failed to stop at the signal, Mitchell said, and hit the side of the SUV.

The call went out at approximately 5:50 p.m. St. George Police and St. George Fire Department vehicles arrived on scene.

Mitchell said the drivers and passengers involved were checked by EMS officials on the scene but none were transported to the hospital.

After a responding officer investigated, Mitchell said, it was determined that the pickup truck’s brakes malfunctioned. The driver was not cited for any infractions.

The SUV was able to pull to the side of the road and the truck came to rest in the opposite direction in a turning lane, so it was slow going through the intersection for about 40 minutes but flow resumed to normal after the vehicles were towed.

This report is based on statements from police personnel and may not include the full scope of the findings.
