Tiffany Mitchell, the public information officer for St. George Police, told St. George News a 29-year-old man was driving the vehicle and was cited for DUI. Mitchell added that this is the driver’s second DUI in the last 10 years, so he now faces a Class A misdemeanor charge.

“The driver hit some boulders. He took out a tree,” Mitchell said. “And then clearly the building had significant structural damage.”

Mitchell added that the St. George Fire Department assisted by shoring up the building as they were concerned about it collapsing. Gold Cross Ambulance also assisted and the driver was reported to have only face lacerations.

The gaping hole on the side of the building and the sheered-off tree illustrated the crash’s impact. Debris was strewn around the business. This Tropical Smoothie location is closed until further notice. Efforts to reach out to the corporation were unsuccessful at the publication of this article.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings. Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
