CEDAR CITY — A wreck in Cedar City caused no traffic delays on 200 East on Thursday morning. Due to a heavy overnight snowstorm, there wasn’t much traffic on the roads.
Emergency dispatch received a call reporting the incident at the intersection of 200 East and 200 South at approximately 10:45 a.m.
Cedar City Police officer John Hill said the traffic incident involved two vehicles — a red full-size GMC truck and a silver Mercedes sport utility vehicle.
“The pickup was traveling south on 200 East and said he looked both ways at the stop sign before proceeding,” Hill said. “A Mercedes SUV traveling east on 200 South collided with the truck.”
The driver of the Mercedes complained of leg pain but denied medical treatment on scene. The driver of the GMC truck was cited for failure to yield. Airbags on both vehicles were deployed and both were towed from the scene.
On a cold, windy morning, planning for the unexpected and paying attention are the best ways to avoid accidents, Hill added, when asked if weather played a factor.
“Not just on a snowy day, but any day — slow down and pay attention,” he said. “A lot of the time we might rush and people think they looked, but did they truly look? Or are they just in a hurry? In most traffic accidents I see, if the person would have slowed down or been paying attention, it wouldn’t have happened.”
