Sleigh, what? Fisher Family Farm’s Deck the Halls Festival is in full swing in Hurricane

HURRICANE —The horses are ready, the hot cocoa is steaming and all through the farm the lights are gleaming.

Stepping onto the dirt of Fisher Family Farm for the holiday season brings a whole new level of magic mixed with some old-fashioned hometown fun.

“I joke when kids come in all clean,” Fisher Family Farm owner Payton Fisher said. “I say, ‘OK, No. 1 rule — leave dirty.”

Greeted by oversized minions and a giant snowman made of tractor tires, you’ll find something on the farm for every age and interest. Explore the palette maze, slide down culvert slides, explore the Tractor Tire Town, play with goats, take a horse or tractor train ride and stop at the snack shack for Farmer Joe’s Nachos and Ghiradelli hot chocolate.

The snack shack menu also includes jumbo hot dogs, spiced chai lattes and caramel apples — soft caramel dip with sliced apple, whipped cream M&Ms and chocolate syrup.

“My mom still cooks everything,” Fisher said. “That means you get some real food.”

The farm has over 2,200 strands of Christmas lights equalling 150,000 individual lights across the property. Fisher said each tree has approximately 100 strands of lights intertwined with the branches. It takes an average of 80 hours to put lights in the trees, and with five workers, it’s a solid month of work to complete. The cost of the lighting alone sits around $35,000.

Walk into the lighted arch to see the redneck tree competition. Trees are either decorated by local businesses or made out of various objects. Each festival attendee can vote for their top three favorite trees.

“Hurricane Car Lot made this one out of all car parts,” Fisher said, pointing at the metal masterpiece. “It weighs almost 500 pounds. I got it off the truck with my forklift and my tractor.”

Past the trees and through the arch you’ll find a petting zoo with goats and sheep. Fisher said the goats have been with the family since they were babies and are extremely friendly. They love everyone, and they chew on everything.

The vast nativity showcases not only a traditional nativity scene but the entire life of the Savior from birth to death. Watch the scene of baby Jesus lying in a manger and follow it through to life-size crosses, a tomb of resurrection and more. The nativity will remain up and operational through the Easter holiday.

“No one ever does his life from birth to death,” he said. “At nighttime, with the lights and the scriptures and the music and the projectors, it just brings it to life.”

A movie will be projected onto the side of a truck near a communal fire pit where families can warm up and roast marshmallows. Private fire pits are available to rent at $20 per hour. 

“Kids are on their phones literally an average of eight hours a day,” he said. “So bring them out and let them get freaking dirty. Roll around, scrape your knee and experience life because we don’t do that anymore.”

Santa will be at the festival every Friday and Saturday, 5:30-7:30 p.m., inside a new onsite building. Brunch with Santa will also take place from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays. The inside of the building has been decorated by Children’s Dental and giveaways will occur nightly with prizes that include bikes and toys.

The Fisher Family Farm Christmas Festival is open Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4-8 p.m. The farm will be open and running the entire week of Christmas, Monday-Saturday from 4-8 p.m. Entry is $10 per adult and $7 per child.

Although tickets can be purchased at the gate, Fisher requested that all tickets be bought online prior to the event. Purchase tickets here.

“We’re excited to have you guys come out to deck the halls here at Fisher Family Farms,” he said. “It’s just getting back to the dirt and bringing people back to reality. Come experience something that’s completely different.”
