Charlene Wintch Higuera

Charlene Wintch Higuera passed away on Nov. 6, 2023, at the age of 80 at the Spring Gardens Assisted Living Center in St. George, Utah.

Charlene was born on Oct. 14, 1943, to Kent and Betty Lou Wintch of Tropic Utah. Charlene was the oldest of five children: Pamela, Samuel, Kenneth, and Rhett. Her father worked for the National Park Service, and she spent all her childhood living in different parks in Utah and surrounding states. She graduated from Bryce Valley School in Tropic and went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in sociology at Brigham Young University. 

Charlene enjoyed working in the secretarial field for many school districts in California, Utah and Oregon. She also was dedicated to understanding and aiding mental health work and spent several years working for Wasatch Mental Health in Provo, Utah. 

After college she moved to California where she met, fell in love with and married Edward Russell Higuera. They were married in the Los Angeles Temple and lived in California for over 20 years. They had three children: Heidi, Krysti and Russell “Russ” Edward passed away Nov. 11, 2001.

Charlene has five grandchildren: Ashliy, L.J., Ty, Allen and Anneli. She has three great-grandchildren: Rylan, Carson, and Lincoln.

Charlene will be remembered for her soft-spoken manner, her kindness and her desire to help her family and do good work for others.

A memorial service will be held at the Foster Hills Ward LDS Chapel, 259 N Mall Drive, St. George, Utah, on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 5 p.m. The burial will take place at the Tropic City Cemetery on Friday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m.
