CEDAR CITY — Showcasing the entrepreneurial spirit of a growing community, the Best of Iron County contest highlights the very finest in small business that the Cedar City area has to offer, from burgers and pizza to automotive shops and building contractors.

Best of Iron County presents an opportunity for business owners, employees, customers and fans throughout the area to let their voices be heard. And again this year, the people spoke up in a big way.

“We had just under 250,000 total votes. Nominations went up 8% and voting increased by 18%,” Canyon Media general manager Ben Lindquist said. “To me, it shows the quality of the businesses in Iron County right now. You can’t grow and expand as a community without a really high level of small business.”

Small businesses are an invaluable thread in the fabric of every community, and they rely on local support. Finding new and better ways to serve the people of Iron County has become a priority for Canyon Media in recent years.

“We love this contest and love watching the community get excited for it each year,” said Brent Rowe, director of sales for St. George News and Cedar City News. “Each year, we see more and more participation from businesses and from the community in nominations and voting.”

Gold and silver award winners have been crowned in 10 consolidated categories: Activities and Entertainment, Business and Services, Food and Beverage, General Services, Home and Garden, Lifestyle and Beauty, Medical, Schools, Shopping, and Vehicles and Services. The winning businesses are displayed at BestofIronCounty.com and in the free Best of Iron County magazine, which is now available at the following locations:

  • Brian K. Tavoian Family Dentistry, 510 S. Main St., Cedar City.
  • Christensen’s Department Store, 984 S. Main St., Cedar City.
  • State Bank of Southern Utah, 377 N. Main St., Cedar City.
  • Triple S Polaris, 110 W. 535 South, Cedar City.

Millions of people pass through Cedar City, known as “Festival City USA,” every year. Whether it’s to wander the picturesque trails of Cedar Breaks National Monument or catch a play during the award-winning Utah Shakespeare Festival, both tourists and locals need to know the best places to stop while they’re in town. With this in mind, Canyon Media will be distributing a total of 7,500 complimentary copies of the publication over the coming weeks.

Adding to the prestige, this year’s prize packages for the winners include gold and silver medals as well as a window cling and a certificate. Keep an eye out around town for Best of Iron County awards on display at various establishments.

Just like the unique flavor of the greater St. George area, which was showcased earlier this year during the fifth annual Best of Southern Utah contest, Iron County carries its own appeal and style. There aren’t many places where visitors will find rich heritage and small-town charm blended effortlessly with a burgeoning tourism economy and the environment of an acclaimed university. For these attributes, and many others, it’s a great place to do business.

Best of Iron County was once again presented by Canyon Media, Cedar City News and returning title sponsor Brian K. Tavoian Family Dentistry, Cedar City’s “smile doctor” for 31 years and counting. Tavoian, a proud Iron County resident, won gold in the cosmetic dentistry and dentist categories for the fourth consecutive year.

“For me, Cedar City is perfect. People are friendly, nice and look out for and help each other,” he said. “I’m proud to be part of our close-knit community, and there’s no better way to support this great county than to invest in the businesses and people here.”
