St. George Police Sgt. Tyrell Bangerter told St. George News that shortly after 7:30 p.m., officers and emergency personnel were dispatched to the intersection of Bluff Street and North 500 West on a report of a crash involving a female pedestrian who was struck by a pickup truck.

The woman was reportedly struck while crossing Bluff Street, the sergeant said, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators, Bangerter said, adding that several witnesses also stopped and spoke to police to try to help investigators “understand exactly what happened.”

At the time of the crash, the pickup truck was heading north on Bluff Street, and the woman was on the south side of the intersection, where she was hit.

“That is everything we know right now,” Bangerter said.

The accident reconstruction team was called out to determine the cause of the crash.

Consequently, all Bluff Street travel lanes between West 400 North and West 600 North were shut down for several hours to allow the team to conduct the reconstruction.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have driven by the scene immediately after the incident, who witnessed the crash or any other witnesses who may have seen what happened in the moments just prior to the crash, to call the St. George Police Department at 435-627-4300.

The woman’s identity is not being released at this time and the report will be updated as further information becomes available.

The St. George Police Department, the St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene. The accident reconstruction team consisted of officers from the St. George Police Department, the Washington City Police Department, the Hurricane Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

This report is based on statements from police, emergency personnel or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
