UPDATE: Oct. 31, 7:04 p.m. Sgt. Lucas Alfred told St. George News on Tuesday that the driver of the vehicle that left the road was cited driving under the influence at the conclusion of the investigation.

“Speed was a factor as well,” Alfred said.

The man was recovering from “serious injuries” and was not booked into jail on the charges.

Emergency dispatchers received a report at approximately 6 p.m. of a vehicle having gone off the road over a bridge. The incident involved one vehicle — a green Dodge Challenger Hellcat — and one patient transported to the hospital.

“Mercy Air was originally dispatched to transport the patient but it was called off by the fire department and an ambulance took the patient to the hospital with severe injuries,” Washington County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Lucas Alfred told St. George News, adding that the investigation was still early in the process.

The direction of travel and what caused the vehicle to leave the road is still under investigation. Alfred said more details will be released when the investigation is complete.

This report is based on statements from court records, police or other responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
