“Our event is meant to showcase our amazing Southern Utah manufacturers to the community,” said Tessa Douglas, the college’s director of public relations. “Many of the manufacturers who participate are also hiring, so it is somewhat of a job fair as well.”

Douglas said more than 20 manufacturers had booths at the expo, which had approximately 500 attendees, including students from Cedar and Canyon View High Schools, along with the smaller high schools in Panguitch and Lincoln County, Nevada.

“This was our largest turnout year for the expo, both in terms of participating manufacturers and attendees,” Douglas added. “We were very grateful for the support of our local high schools in bringing and encouraging their students to attend.”

The expo is the result of a partnership effort between Southwest Technical College and Made in Southern Utah, a local manufacturers’ coalition.

Participating companies included Align Precision, American Packaging, Staheli West, GAF, New Era Manufacturing, Mauser Packaging, Wilson Electronics, Cacique Foods, Arcus, LV Swiss and BZI Steel.

“For Southwest Tech, the event is a great way to partner with local industry and educate the community about quality job opportunities in the trades,” Douglas said. “For MISU (Made in Southern Utah), the expo is an opportunity to celebrate our local manufacturers and recruit future employees.”
