The event saw participation from eight distribution cooperatives, all united in their mission to serve and uplift local communities.

“The rural electric co-ops have a long history of giving back to the communities where they provide electric utility service,” said Nathaniel Johnson, executive director of the Utah Rural Electric Cooperative Associations. “Rural electric co-ops exist to empower the individuals and businesses within their local communities, and they often do far more than provide electricity to keep the lights on.”

Dixie Power was actively involved in various service activities throughout the day. The team in St. George volunteered at the Utah Food Bank, contributing to the effort to combat hunger in local communities. A food drive was held in the Flowell/Fillmore area, demonstrating the power of community support in addressing food scarcity. Additionally, they lent their time and energy at the Escalante Valley Elementary School, reinforcing the importance of education for future generations.

Throughout October, rural electric cooperatives have designated multiple days for their teams to serve within their respective communities. The activities range from assisting at local food banks, reading with elementary-aged children, organizing food drives, visiting residents at a local care facility, washing windows, pruning trees, sponsoring a refrigerator recycling event, cleaning up the county fairgrounds, to hosting a tailgate party at a middle school football game.

Concern for the community is a core principle for electric co-ops like Dixie Power. Founded on the ideal of providing electric utility service in underserved areas, cooperatives continue their mission today by providing power to nearly 100,000 residents in Utah, predominantly in rural and remote areas across the state.
