Utah Highway Patrol troopers responded at 3:38 p.m., to an incident involving a blue BMW motorcycle and a red Dodge Ram pickup truck. The crash happened just north of I-15’s Exit 51 at Hamilton Fort.

UHP Sgt. Bambi Baie said the woman driving the Dodge pickup had just gotten on the interstate at Exit 51.

“She was talking to her kid, got distracted and just drove into the tail of the motorcycle,” Baie said, adding that the impact caused the motorcycle to crash off the right side of the roadway.

“He was wearing a helmet and he sustained only very minor injuries,” Baie said of the rider.

Although a Gold Cross Ambulance crew responded to the scene, the rider declined to be transported to the hospital, Baie said.

Nobody in the truck was injured. However, its driver was issued a citation for following too closely, Baie added.

The truck sustained a dented front bumper but was still drivable.

As for the bike, which had a California license plate, the extent of damage wasn’t immediately clear, nor was it known whether it was still operable.

An Iron County Sheriff’s deputy also responded to the scene.

This report is based on preliminary statements from law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
