CEDAR CITY — A man was injured Friday afternoon after his pickup truck went off the road and crashed among trees in Parowan Canyon, police said.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Bambi Baie told Cedar City News the incident happened at approximately 12:45 p.m. on state Route 143, about 8.5 miles up the canyon. It involved a silver 2017 Chevrolet Silverado with a male driver approximately 50 years old as its only occupant, Baie said.
“The driver had just come through a construction zone and was on the other side of it,” Baie said. “He went off the road to the left, went down an embankment and ended up in the middle of several trees he hit on the way down.”
Baie said the vehicle went so far into the foliage that it’s unlikely it would have been noticed by a passing motorist.
“Nobody would have found him where he was located, because he was so far off the road down the embankment and in the thick trees,” she said, adding that fortunately, the driver was able to get out of the truck on his own and make his way back to the road to signal for help.
Baie said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
“We’re not really sure what caused it,” she said. “He’s not really sure why he went off the road.”
The driver was transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to a local medical facility for treatment for his injuries, which Baie described as “minor to moderate.”
Meanwhile, the truck sustained heavy damage and needed to be towed.
Brian Head Marshal’s Office also responded to the incident.
