ST. GEORGE — We’re back to highlighting exceptional student-athletes throughout Southern Utah with all new episodes of “Performance Player of the Month,” brought to you by Ken Garff St. George Ford.
This month’s episode features Desert Hills High School volleyball star Trinity Pilimai. Mark Musgrave, “The Voice You Know” from The Fan Sports Network, joined her on her home court to catch up.

Pilimai is a senior at Desert Hills and an outside hitter for the Lady Thunder. One of the strongest girls’ volleyball teams in the 4A division, they finished runner-ups at last year’s state championship.
“It’s a good ending,” she said. “Obviously everyone wants to get first place, but no one talks about how good it is to get second as well.”
Pilimai has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA so far this school year and a 3.8 GPA throughout high school. She credits her work ethic to her parents and especially her mom, who comes to every one of her games. She also looks up to her big brother Alema, who excelled in high school football and ultimately went on to play for the BYU Cougars.
“He’s a hard worker, and he taught me a lot about how to be athletic,” she said.
With only a few weeks left in the regular season, Pilimai hopes to continue growing with her team and helping lead them to another appearance at State. After graduating, she plans to play for Gillette College in Wyoming and then go to nursing school.
Her advice to other girls playing volleyball is to realize why they love the sport and remember that “why” throughout their career, whether they play in high school, college or beyond.
“The reason why you love the game changes a lot throughout your life,” she said. “But just realize that and know that and hold it with you while you’re playing. It makes it way more fun.”
