CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — If the concept of surfing a sick wave in Southern Utah seems impossible, wait until you see Southern Shores, the newest community rising in the Hurricane Valley by Immaculate Homes.
Bringing a whole new meaning to “staycation,” Southern Shores features 80 acres of prime real estate only a half-hour drive from Zion National Park and just minutes away from Sand Hollow State Park.

He and his wife, Brittany Christensen, purchased the land and private water rights 10 years ago. After going through the necessary city and state procedures, they finally were able to start construction this year.

“The fact that we have the only UNIT surf wave in the United States right now is one thing that sets us apart,” Brittney Christensen said. “There’s a never-ending wave and constant surfing available.”
When it comes to wakeboarding, Southern Shores offers 15-foot-deep waters in order to generate a real wake. With a focus on conserving resources, they’ve gone the extra mile to make sure everything is done right.
The community is quickly coming together, with the surf lake and cable-pulled wakeboarding lake completed and available for use by residents now. The boating lake is currently being filled and is expected to be ready for use by the end of the year. Home construction is planned to begin this fall.
And Southern Shores property owners are already loving it.
Homeowners Chad and Cara Garner said they’re completely blown away by the surf lake and wakeboard park. With a love for waterskiing his entire life, Chad Garner said he often drew pictures of his dream home that included a private waterskiing lake.
“With Southern Shores, I am able to make my dream come true,” he said. “The dream of living on a lake is hardly anything compared to the reality that the developers have made for us at Southern Shores. We could not be more excited to live there.”
Cara Garner said they purchased land at Southern Shores in order to spend more quality time together as a family. With access to their favorite activities without leaving home, they’re about to accomplish just that. They’ve already had a chance to surf, wakeboard and meet new friends.
“The surfing was more fun than I ever imagined,” she added. “Surfing is now our favorite sport. And the camaraderie felt among the Southern Shores community has been a pleasure to be a part of.”
Southern Shores features 56 custom home sites, with 34 offering lakefront living with a private boathouse and dock. Each lot ranges from .42 acres to .8 acres, with access to power, sewer and culinary water. Amenities include parks, volleyball courts, pickleball courts and tennis courts.
