WASHINGTON CITY — A collision between a sports utility vehicle and a minivan disrupted traffic at the corner of Washington Fields Road and Washington Dam Road on Friday morning.
The crash, which occurred around 8:40 a.m., backed up traffic for more than three blocks in both directions of Washington Fields and took 40 minutes to clear by Washington City Police and Fire.
Lt. Kory Klotz with the Washington City Police Department told St. George News a white Honda Odyssey was going north on Washington Fields when it passed the light that had just turned red.
“The driver in the gray Honda Pilot was making a left-hand turn with the green arrow and the van went right into the side of her vehicle,” Klotz said.
Both vehicles had female drivers as their sole passengers.
The driver side of the Pilot SUV was crumpled but the side airbags protected the driver, Klotz said.
“The car was structurally sound and she was pretty good,” Klotz said.
The driver of the Pilot was taken by Gold Cross Ambulance to St. George Regional Hospital with what were described by Klotz as “very minor” injuries. The driver of the Odyssey was cited for a red-light violation but otherwise uninjured, he added.
While both vehicles were towed, Klotz praised both the driver of the Pilot and the vehicle:
“The car did what it was supposed to do, she did what she was supposed to do so everybody walked away.”
