PAROWAN — The Iron County Fair Parade, an annual Labor Day tradition in Utah’s “Mother Town,” delighted crowds on both sides of Parowan’s Main Street on Monday.

The event, which had a “Round Up” theme this year, started promptly at 10 a.m. with a flyover by two SUU Aviation helicopters, followed by a flag color guard featuring three Iron County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

The procession that followed included marching bands, cheerleaders, drill teams, dance groups and pageant royalty. Miss Utah Sarah Sun waved from a convertible. Several rodeo royalty members rode by on horseback, as did a number of youngsters involved in 4-H.

As usual, plenty of candy was tossed out to multitudes of children lining the street.

All three Iron County Commissioners appeared in matching T-shirts. Other elected officials were also represented, including the mayors of Parowan, Cedar City and other local municipalities.

On the eve of the GOP primary election, Utah Congressional candidate Celeste Maloy was also seen riding in the back of a horse-drawn wagon adorned with campaign signs. Multiple candidates for Parowan City Council also joined in the fun.

Other highlights included a variety of vehicles, including semitractor-trailers, off-road vehicles and an assortment of vintage automobiles.

Mel Clark served as the grand marshal. Also honored later in the parade was 101-year-old military veteran Robert E. Toia.

The parade marked the start of the final day of festivities at the popular Iron County Fair.
