ST. GEORGE — The long wait is nearly over.

Utah Tech’s football team kicks off the season in Bozeman, Montana, on Saturday at 6 p.m. against No. 3 Montana State.

According to Utah Tech Athletics Media Relations, the Trailblazers and Bobcats have met twice before on the gridiron, though Saturday’s contest will be the first when both teams are members of the Football Championship Series (FCS).

The Bobcats beat the Trailblazers in the previous games, both when Utah Tech was still a Division II program.

In its NCAA era, Utah Tech is 3-14 all-time in season openers. In head coach Paul Peterson’s tenure on the sideline, the Trailblazers are 1-3 in season-opening games.

Utah Tech’s football team has traveled more than 28,300 round-trip miles on 14 different road trips during its first three FCS seasons.

This year the Trailblazers are scheduled to travel just over 15,000 round-trip miles for seven road games.

Those include first-ever program visits to the states of Missouri (at Missouri State, Sept. 23), Alabama (at North Alabama, Oct. 21) and Tennessee (at Austin Peay, Nov. 11).

Four captains, as selected by their teammates, will lead the Trailblazers onto the field on Saturday–senior offensive lineman Kana’i Eldredge, senior wide receiver Rickie Johnson, junior linebacker Will Leota and junior defensive lineman Syrus Webster.

Voice of the Trailblazers Rob Zundel begins his second season calling Utah Tech games. His call will be broadcast live on The Fan Sports Network, 99.5/95.3 FM in St. George, 93.1 FM/1400 AM in Cedar City.

Joining Zundel in the broadcast booth this season is former Trailblazer wide receiver Deven Osborne, who will provide color analysis for all home games and select road games.
