What Southern Utahns should know as ballots are mailed out for upcoming primary election

ST. GEORGE — The primary election is fast approaching with mail-in ballots being sent out this week.

At the federal level, three Republicans are vying to be the GOP candidate on the November ballot for the special election to replace outgoing Congressman Chris Stewart. While the municipal races’ abundance of candidates will be whittled down, surviving candidates will move toward the general election Nov. 21.

As the Sept. 5 primary election nears, the race with the most candidates running for a town or city council position is St. George with a total of 16 candidates, including incumbents. Three council seats are up for grabs.

While much attention is given across the state to the upcoming primary showdown between Republican congressional hopefuls Celeste Maloy, Becky Edwards and Bruce Hough, local officials, particularly past and present county clerk auditors, have said elections at the local level have the most direct impact on the people.

An overall list of the candidates can be found at this link.
