ST. GEORGE — Following a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 15 Thursday afternoon, the Utah Highway Patrol reminds drivers to give the road undivided attention.
Shortly after 1 p.m., a driver heading north in the rain navigated a steep hill in a gray GMC pickup truck, UHP Sgt. Matt Noyes told St. George News. He and his passenger were both reportedly feeling tired.
The man came upon a slower-moving semitractor-trailer near mile marker 39 and was slow to react, Noyse said. He swerved, clipping the back right corner of the semi at high speed and tearing off part of the side rail, which crashed through the GMC’s windshield.
The pickup driver had minor facial injuries and was not transported to the hospital, Noyse said. The semi driver and the pickup truck passenger reportedly were unharmed.
To avoid similar crashes, Noyse said people should remember to give driving the full attention it deserves.
“We just got to make sure that we focus on the road when we’re behind the wheel,” he said.
The New Harmony Fire Department, Washington County Sheriff, Utah Department of Transportation and Gold Cross responded to the crash.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement officials and may not contain the full scope of findings.
