Authorities report the driver was able to escape the pickup by kicking out the windshield of the flipped vehicle.
Beaver Dam/Littlefield Fire District Assistant Chief Andres Ojeda told St. George News that when first responders arrived on the scene, the white Chevrolet Silverado truck was resting on the driver’s side 50-60 feet off the highway amid desert terrain.
Ojeda said the driver reported “he got off the road a little bit and then he tried to get back on it and overcorrected it, ending up in the wrong opposite lane. He then tried to swerve around someone to avoid hitting them head-on, rolling about three-quarters.”
The driver was examined by emergency medical personnel and released after refusing transport. Ojeda added that Littlefield/Beaver Dam Fire and EMS responded along with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.
Traffic was not affected since the vehicle was off the highway.
Ojeda would not comment on whether speed was a factor but said the driver claimed he was not speeding. The speed limit in the area where the incident occurred is 45 mph.
“He walked out of this because it was confirmed he was wearing his seatbelt,” Ojeda said, adding this serves as a reminder of the importance of wearing safety restraints.
“Make sure you follow the posted speed limits,” Ojeda said. “They are there for a reason.”
This report is based on statements by law enforcement personnel and may not include the full scope of the findings.
