CONTRIBUTED CONTENT — As the educational arm of Trinity Lutheran Church in St. George, Trinity Lutheran Academy has been serving families through a close relationship between school, home and congregation for over 30 years. Teachers share the Word of God daily with students while engaging and assisting parents in the guidance and nurturing of their children. Through education of the whole child, students are prepared for a life of responsible, faith-based citizenship.

Trinity Lutheran Academy meets or exceeds state and national standards for education and is accredited by the National Lutheran Schools Accreditation. The school also maintains high academic standards in math, science, social science and language arts while incorporating music, visual arts, health and fitness and technology into its curriculum.

“We don’t see ourselves in competition with public schools or any other school,” principal Duane Nyen said. “We just offer an alternative where we emphasize the role between family and school, where we work together to serve the needs of the child.”

Trinity Lutheran Academy provides quality Christian education to students in kindergarten through seventh grade. The school also offers half-day and full-day pre-K programs that blend learning opportunities with exploratory play time, music, art and kindergarten readiness activities. All families are welcome, regardless of church membership or religion.

The mission of Trinity Lutheran Academy is fostering students who demonstrate critical thinking, problem solving, individual responsibility, personal integrity and the ability to stand publicly in their faith through words and actions. The school’s multi-age classrooms incorporate project-based learning, STEM activities, service learning, drama, athletics, foreign language and computer-based learning. State-certified teachers work closely with parents to ensure each child’s success in an environment where everyone is treated like family.

Every school year is packed with field trips into the community for educational experiences outside the classroom. As students progress through the grades, technology use and individualized learning opportunities increase. Students continue developing their independent learning abilities while gaining the skills that future employers will be looking for.

Since kids don’t all learn at the same pace, classes are arranged to develop each student’s unique learning needs. With the multi-age classroom approach, a child gifted in math yet struggling in reading can work alongside peers who are at the same level in both subjects without the pressure of a grade level being placed on their studies.

Adjustments are made throughout the year to make sure kids are being challenged to reach their highest potential. Students also work collaboratively on projects that build the technology, science, math and leadership skills they’ll need to succeed in high school, college and beyond.

“We give them a solid foundation,” Nyen said. “A lot of our students are taking AP classes once they leave here and enter the public school system.”

As a tuition-based private school, Trinity Lutheran Academy offers smaller class sizes with an average student-teacher ratio of 20 to 1. School hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays. After-school programs are available along with a lunch program.

Trinity Lutheran Academy closely follows the Washington County School District’s calendar. The 2023-24 school year begins Aug. 15, and enrollment is open now.
