CEDAR CITY— The two passengers who died in a rollover crash in northern Iron County on Friday night have been identified as Alexia de Campos, 19, and Marcela Miranda, 17.

As previously reported, a Honda Civic traveling southbound on Interstate 15 about 12 miles north of Parowan left the roadway and rolled multiple times into the median at about 8:15 p.m., killing two of the five people inside the vehicle and injuring the other three.

De Campos was identified when the Utah Department of Public Safety updated its post about the crash on Sunday. The agency said it would not release the name of the deceased 17-year-old due to her being a minor.

However, Miranda was identified by friends and family members who have established a GoFundMe page to raise money toward her funeral costs.

Miranda’s funeral service has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the City View Mortuary in Salt Lake City (1001 E. 11th Avenue), according to the fundraising page, which was established by Augusto Frenhan on Sunday. As of noon Monday, the campaign had raised nearly $15,000.

Meanwhile, a separate GoFundMe page established on behalf of de Campos has raised nearly $10,000 as of noon Monday. That fundraiser, organized by Duda Alvez of Pleasant Grove, states that de Campos was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where her family still lives.

“We need resources to help transfer her body from Utah to Brazil, then permitting her family and friends to have a proper funeral,” states the GoFundMe announcement, written in Portuguese.

Excessive speed and lack of seat belt use are being looked at as possible contributing factors, according to Utah Highway Patrol’s updated post.

UHP told Cedar City News on Monday that further details about the incident would not be released at this time, saying the investigation is still active and ongoing.
