COLORADO CITY, Ariz. — An all-terrain vehicle being towed by another collided with the one pulling it, resulting in both riders being thrown from the vehicles and transported to the hospital.
Colorado City/Hildale Police Department Chief Robb Radley said a husband on a “four-wheeler” ATV was towing his wife on another similar ATV on Arizona State Route 389 when he looked back to see how she was doing.
“While he looked back he braked while she did not,” Radley said.
The wife collided with the back of the ATV her husband was driving. Both were thrown from their ATVs resulting in multiple injuries.
The location of the incident was near Airport Road in Colorado City, Ariz.
Radley said the man suffered serious head trauma and was airlifted to the St. George Regional Hospital. The woman was transported by ambulance with unknown injuries. Both were not wearing protective gear or helmets, Radley said.
The call for emergency services was received at 2:50 p.m. on Saturday, April 29. Traffic was shut doen entirely for the medical helicopter to land. Radley said the highway was closed for approximately 30 minutes.
“It is always critical to wear protective gear,” Radley warned. “We encourage helmets and gloves and appropriate wear.”
